Overview of the Role

The ideal CCRJ Director of Sales - will have strong people skills, engaging with customers, brokers and internal cross-functional team. The Director of Sales--West will work to develop and execute annual plans to increase sales, improve velocities, and deliver profitable growth. Understanding of snacking categories, Western Grocery accounts, West Coast Distributors and existing relationships with Albertson’s/Safeway will be the key to success in this role.

**This position will be home based and will report to the VP of Sales**

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sales Support Coordinator: Responsible for coordinating a myriad of administrative, operational and sales related activities.

  • Maintain and expand customer base by building and maintaining strong relationships with key distributors and customers; identify new customer opportunities
    • Primary focus will be on Albertson’s/Safeway business
    • Includes customer relationships at the buyer/CM level, as well as expanding into senior leadership to develop top-to-top opportunities
  • Manage meat snacks and front-end resets to get maximum distribution on innovation and current items
    • Successfully achieve off-cycle cut-ins for customers that do not have planned resets in meat snacks
  • Build a strategic and collaborative annual trade promotion calendar for each customer while managing trade budget to ensure spending is kept within guidelines.
  • Track weekly consumption, distribution, pricing, and sales to continuously deliver against sales plan
  • Create meaningful presentations for category reviews using category, brand, and item insights to capitalize on opportunities
  • Develop, manage, and support a broker network, including setting standards and performing reviews
  • Educate relevant internal Sales and Marketing members of CCRJ on key aspects of assigned retailer’s business and needs.
  • Address all retailer specific requests/requirements
  • Partner with marketing team to recommend and deliver impactful shopper marketing on CCRJ priorities at strategic accounts
  • Work cross-functionally with supply chain on accurate monthly forecasting
  • Perform retail level store checks in all markets as needed to ensure execution of initiatives and uncover opportunities
  • Attend trade shows to represent the brand and develop sales opportunities

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) preferred
  • Must have experience working with Albertson’s/Safeway
  • At least five years of grocery sales and account management experience in the food industry
    • Snack category experience preferred
  • Established relationships and demonstrated success working with key retail accounts along with the leading brokers and distributors (UNFI, KeHE, etc.), servicing these channels
  • Ability to plan and manage at both the strategic and operational levels
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Spins/Nielsen, etc.
  • Proven ability to gain commitment and build strategic work relationships
  • Ability to travel as needed for customer appointments, etc. Anticipate approximately 50% travel
  • Excellent skills in the following areas: listening, presentation, negotiation, analysis, customer service, selling, communication, organization and problem solving
  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel, etc.
  • Consideration given to candidates located throughout the Western United States, preferably near a major airport

Overview of the Role

The CFO will serve as a key member of the Senior Leadership team, working closely with cross-functional peers to drive strategic growth of the business. The CFO will lead the finance function, including FP&A, reporting and controls, ensuring that key functional leaders are provided with accurate, timely and relevant financial data that is critical to effectively run the business. They will ensure that financial transactions, policies and procedures meet the company’s short and long-term objectives and all regulatory body requirements. In conjunction with the other members of the leadership team, he/she will work proactively to grow sales and EBITDA and position the company for a successful future transaction.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a rigorous and disciplined planning and forecasting process to provide analytical insight and direction to the other members of senior management. Establish metrics and systems that maintain accountability and effectively manage risks.
  • Ensure that all levels of the company and external constituents are provided with accurate, timely and relevant financial reporting to run the business.
  • Serve as a financial and operational advisor and business partner to the CEO and other members of the leadership team. Provide strategic insight and forward-thinking ideas to grow the company.
  • Ensure effective and accurate usage of systems across all functions, upgrading and enhancing reporting tools and processes as needed.
  • Partner closely with the sales team, making sure they are equipped with accurate data and analytics to support selling stories and category strategies for key customers.
  • Develop and leverage modeling and scenario planning to assist leadership team in making key strategic decisions.
  • Lead analysis and development of financial updates and 'sell decks' for prospective investors.
  • Work with the board and investors to ensure that the company maintains an optimal capital structure and minimizes cost of capital while maintaining financial flexibility.

During the first year, the new VP, Finance should accomplish the following:

  • Quickly work to understand the business, strategy, and opportunities in the near term. Engage with senior leaders on all aspects of the business, with a keen focus on tangible opportunities to drive revenues and minimize costs.
  • Demonstrate engaged leadership; set a vision for what an efficient, value-add finance function can do for the company, its customers, and key stakeholders.
  • Establish a positive and productive relationship with the leadership team and the board of directors. Communicate proactively and keep them apprised of progress, including any issues that arise.
  • Improve the company’s planning, reporting and forecasting processes, taking a proactive, forward-looking approach to the function.

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Qualified candidates will have 15 or more years of experience in financial positions with increasing scope and responsibility. Strong preference for individuals who have led a high-growth, challenger brand ($50MM revenue or less). Experience in a venture/equity-backed and/or leveraged business is ideal, particularly with transaction experience.

Additional qualifications will include, but not be limited to:

  • An insightful executive with a strong bias for action; someone who “rolls up his/her sleeves”, commits themselves fully to the business and who is dedicated to developing and delivering outstanding results.
  • Outstanding analytical, problem solving and presentation skills, with a high degree of intellectual curiosity and the ability to engage the CEO and cross-functional partners in addressing complex business issues.
  • Ability to identify, crate and evaluate optimal pricing strategies, trade spend programs, etc., to support sales and margin growth.
  • Experience leading a high-performing FP&A function, ideally with a track record of upgrading and enhancing systems, processes and reporting.
