Regional Sales Manager: Grocery East

POSITION DETAILS:

The Regional Sales Manager: Grocery East is responsible for driving sales performance, market share, and brand representation of Chef’s Cut Real Jerky® in key grocery, specialty & natural markets, retailers, and distributors. This role owns the relationship with specific grocery/ specialty markets retailers and distributors and is responsible for the creation and execution of an annual joint business plan, negotiating all retailer/trade-related terms/contracts, data access/KPI-tracking, sharing and translating category insights into actionable plans, and addressing all retailer specific requests/requirements.

**This position will be home based. and will report to the VP of Sales East**

  • Own & develop strong relationship with assigned customers.
  • Own and manage strong relationships with assigned customers within the grocery and specialty markets channels.
  • Manage and direct all third-party brokers within your designated territory.
  • Address all retailer specific requests/requirements.
  • Negotiate all trade-related terms and contracts.
  • Conduct regular business reviews.
  • Educate relevant internal Sales and Marketing members of CCRJ on key aspects of assigned retailer’s business and needs.
  • Create strong business plan for assigned customers.
  • Understand assigned customers’ strategies/roadmaps, organization, operations, shoppers, capabilities and best practices.
  • Understand grocery/specialty markets customer requirements for strategic partnerships in order to help grow CCRJ’s business.
  • Identify relevant KPIs, secure necessary data to measure and track accordingly.
  • Create and execute annual joint business plans (includes partnering with operations/supply chain/finance as necessary to enable key plan elements).
  • Drive category and CCRJ brokers sales growth, markets share & brand representation.
  • Translate category roadmaps and CCRJ Sales Strategy into actionable plans for assigned retailers.
  • Develop and execute strategies and plans to meet assigned sales and market share goals.
  • Monitor and improve brand distribution, representation and discoverability at assigned customers within the grocery, specialty & natural channels.
  • Collaborate with brand/shopper marketing on key programs.
  • Manage trade budget (checkbook, trade funds with specific customers, etc.) and ensure trade spending is kept within the budget. Utilize the trade budget to create specific programs which drives the business.
  • Develop strong understanding and analyze various retailer’s programs’ ROI.
  • Provide accurate and timely sales forecasts.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • BA or BS preferred
  • 3 years' sales experience in Snacking, Beverage or Confectionary Categories,
  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience within Grocery, Specialty or Natural Channels
  • Ability to work independently and effectively on a team
  • Result-driven with excellent judgement, and decision making, interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and analytical skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Proven ability to gain commitment and build strategic work relationships
  • Advanced knowledge and skills MS Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Experience working on a Web Based Trade Marketing Platform I.E. Adesso.
  • Ability to provide Accurate Monthly Forecasts on time
  • Skills in IRI and/or Nielsen Database reporting desired
  • Ability to travel up to 50% to 75% (2-3 nights overnight travel per week)
  • Strong oral, verbal, and written communication skills, results and business intuition, business management and planning, brand management, leadership, building strong relationships, statistics and quantitative business analysis.

Communication

Effectively communicate within the company, co-packers, vendors, and suppliers with the ability to properly exchange with all types of people via phone, email, face-to-face and video conference interactions. Able to negotiate shipping/packaging costs, and transportation arrangements with contracted providers. Maintain clear and consistent communication with suppliers, vendors, and shipping contacts throughout the procurement life-cycle. Proactively engage co-packers and suppliers in identifying potential issues, resolutions and opportunities. Professionalism to develop communication solutions that create value, decrease problems and preemptively solve consistent issues.

 

Transportation

Negotiate contracts and rates with shipping lines, freight forwarders, warehouse managers, co-packers, suppliers and related third-party logistic service providers. Ensure appropriate shipping compliance procedures are followed by employees and contracted service providers. They must execute industry standard policies related to quality, safety, and process improvements.

 

Planning and Analysis

Maintain various supply chain plans and strategies. Involves coordinating and overseeing manufacturing operations in order to forecast orders and meet customer demands. Optimize operational resources while executing cost reductions and inventory controls. Conduct monthly capacity and performance analysis to ensure that forecasts and schedules are aligned and integrated. Execute demand flow verification processes, engage in short-and long-term planning and conduct inventory analysis for warehouse utilization and manufacturing coordination.

 

Inventory Control

Support growth objectives through the development of concise metrics and reporting functions. Conduct risk assessments on product perishability, supply trends, demand factors and at-risk product mitigation. Reduce product obsolescence through inventory reviews and re-balancing efforts. Maintain a total cost perspective with a lean manufacturing mindset. Generate daily, weekly and monthly KPI reports to provide stakeholders with actionable data and insights regarding current stock levels by protein, sku and location. Promote the design, development, and implementation of warehouse, distribution and logistics solutions. Manage inventory levels, data accuracy and stocking strategies. Measure and improve warehouse operations using lean enterprise practices and share warehouse data to improve productivity, quality and customer service standards.

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or Supply Chain

POSITION DETAILS:

The person taking on this role will lead R&D for Chef’s Cut. He/she will be responsible for the identification and development of new formulas and line extensions from concept to execution, working cross functionally, especially with Operations and Marketing. This person will be responsible for managing all phases of new product development including: trend scouting, competitive analysis, ideation, conceptualization, communication of key details with cross-functional teams, formula evaluation, facilitation of field and consumer testing, obtaining final regulatory approvals for product/health claims, nutritions, and ingredients labeling, and scaling up products and packaging for commercialization and launch.

The role will also oversee Regulatory, guiding through and executing against regulatory needs. The role will report directly to the CEO.

R&D RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Research & Analysis:

  • Actively research new ideas/concepts, breakthrough technologies, and innovative ingredients across a variety of industries, research and educational institutions, scientific literatures and translate into tangible products
  • Conduct research based on topics of special interest and develop product applications based on research
  • Research and report on competitive product launches and new technologies
  • Strong understanding of co-packer capabilities and product offerings

 

Product Conceptualization:

  • Initiate and complete Project Concepts that frame product launch
  • Define a quality benchmark prototype

 

Product & Packaging Development:

  • Spearhead the development of new formulas and line extensions
  • Identify new/improved formulation technologies and implement them to meet project needs
  • Lead communications with suppliers/vendors to support the development process
  • Write Product Profiles to generate creative claim opportunities and identify competitive advantages to further enhance product positioning
  • Create range of potential claims in coordination with Marketing and direct necessary claims testing
  • Execute and analyze data in support of panel tests and product questionnaires.
  • Complete Safety/Sensory test requests
  • Partner with Marketing, Creative, and Operations to maintain timelines and provide accurate and up to date information

 

Product Commercialization:

  • Provide clear direction to Operations and co-packers on all formulation aspects
  • Assist Marketing and Sales/Education in developing and/or reviewing product information for field, consumer, press and Influencers.

 

Product Line Maintenance:

  • Identify opportunities to reformulate/update existing Products and packaging
  • Manage reformulation process as if it were a new product launch
  • Provide updated information to Sales and Education for existing line
  • Maintain ingredient database

 

Regulatory:

  • Monitor quality results and take action as needed
  • Guide regulatory efforts around new products and claims
  • Review and approve artwork in partnership with agency/Co-packer and Product Marketing

 

Core Skill Set:

  • Must have curative lens on what is innovative
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications
  • Must be forward-looking thinker with trend-hunting mindset
  • Must have a passion for food and consumer packaged goods
  • Must be an excellent team player with strong analytical and communication skills
  • Must possess the ability to multi-task, establish priorities and yet be flexible in an ever-changing environment with extreme time constraints

 

Experience & Requirements:

  • Must have a food science background
  • 15 years technical experience in Product Development/R&D, ideally including packaging development
  • Significant CPG and co-packer experience (10+ years)
  • Experience with meat products preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in relevant scientific field
